Get bumped off a flight
When passengers are 'bumped' off a flight, usually because of overbooking, cancellations or other delays, airlines are generally required to compensate for this by offering some of the money back in addition to ensuring that a place on a later flight is made available; this money back usually comes in the form of an airline voucher. When the flight is not overbooked, there are no delays and the weather is fine it can be that there is no likelihood of being bumped and therefore no chance of getting a voucher, however some people have managed to come up with a method of volunteering to be bumped in a planned attempt to obtain vouchers for money off their next trip with minimal disruption.
 
If you are working on a flexible schedule, are carrying only hand-luggage and fancy a chance to get yourself a nice discount then one good technique is that outlined by Jeff Strain in his article "The art of getting bumped off a flight", in which he recommends going straight to the desk and volunteering to be bumped right from the get go.
 
"When you ask to be bumped, always insist that you are willing to be bumped only if you can be guaranteed a seat on the next flight out. This does two things for you. First, it means that you have another opportunity of being bumped and gain another voucher. Secondly, it means that you will be able to get to your destination city if need be. If you volunteer without getting a guaranteed seat on the next flight, you may find that they don’t have any free seats on any of the other flights that day and you won’t get compensated since you didn’t have a confirmed seat on the flight.

There are a number of things that you want to keep in mind if you decide you want to get bumped. It’s best to travel with all your belongings as carry-on luggage if possible. If you get bumped from a a flight, your luggage is going to arrive at a different time than you do and the likelihood of problems locating it will increase. Have a really bad experience
Ok so not really the most ideal way to get your hands on vouchers, but nonetheless passengers who have had a particularly bad trip are often compensated with vouchers to get money off their next one, usually as an incentive to return to the same airline after the experience. Receive a voucher as a gift
Some airlines have been known to offer travel vouchers for sale as gifts, in particular at Christmas. While no money is really being saved here since someone is still forking out the amount that that voucher is worth, nonetheless it's another means with which to obtain an airline voucher in a direct and undisruptive way.
